Being in Biopark is a great opportunity because new companies are arriving all the time, and they come with a brand that needs a marketing agency to create a logo, website, and everything necessary to position them in the market.” With this reflection, Shemnom López Serrano, who is the general manager of the Chilean company Sócrates, shows the company’s focus on the opportunities offered by the Ecosystem.
For more than 30 years, Sócrates has been operating in Chile in the technology sector, offering innovation, project, development, artificial intelligence, and marketing services. It was through a recommendation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – ProChile, that a new story began to be written in the trajectory of the family that arrived in Brazil to expand and find new opportunities. “We had almost everything ready to set up a company in Curitiba, and when we received the email from ProChile to get to know Biopark, we did a market study and discovered that we would have a prosperous future if we opened an international company based in the country’s Technology Park, and that’s what we did,” highlights Serrano.
Biopark’s business supervisor, Brenda Noamann, who participated in the negotiations for the arrival of Sócrates, explains that the Ecosystem Program was presented to the company shortly after the first Biopark – ProChile contact. “Biopark was designated by the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a trusted location for their internationalization here in Brazil, because of the infrastructure, mentoring, and all the support offered by the Technology Park. In a meeting, we explained the requirements, compensation, and benefits. On their first visit, they mentioned that they were struggling a lot with issues related to tax documents, CNPJ, and housing due to the bureaucracy that exists in our country. In this regard, we helped the Sócrates family come to Toledo through the documentation to set up the company,” she comments.
In four months, Sócrates grew 110% at Biopark. The company also has clients in Chile, Colombia, the United States, and Switzerland, with over two thousand projects delivered. In addition to the five family members currently working, this year they hope to hire two more designers and a programmer. “Today, Sócrates is a company that I believe has grown and consolidated very quickly. They were able to interact with other companies and make extensive use of the tools offered by Biopark, such as coworking, and WhatsApp groups for sending promotions, for example, and they know how to take advantage of the support of multipliers; to us, Sócrates is a success story and a success of the ProChile benchmark,” concludes Noamann.
Serrano explains that among the benefits are the bridge to new contacts, assistance in document processing, and support through diagnostics that address the company’s demands. “Today Biopark is the place for you to invest both your time and your company and its services; being able to grow exponentially in just a few years. I believe that in a short time the Technology Park will explode, it will grow a lot, and the people who work here will grow in the same way. Biopark’s ideas regarding growth are correct, and the issue of helping other companies so they can grow within an established location is not something found everywhere. Having the opportunity to meet so many companies, big or small, makes us grow as a company and as the Sócrates family,” concludes Serrano.
Coming to Brazil
Shemnom López Serrano was the first to arrive in Brazil. After spending two years as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he decided to return due to the culture, receptivity, and warmth found here. The political and economic situation in Chile are factors that also influenced the decision.
Then came the twin sisters, Sharon and Shanny. In addition to Curitiba, the siblings visited Florianópolis before the Chilean family arrived at Biopark. Later, on December 19, their father, Sócrates Lópes Baquedano, CEO of the company, and his wife Sandra arrived in Brazil. “I have the philosophy of thinking that first I jump into the pool and then I see if there is water, and to my achievement, in the Technology Park I found tranquility, security, and quality of life for my family. I like challenges and this is real at Biopark because every day there is news, new technologies, and of course, new clients,” concludes Baquedano.
For the company’s founder, Biopark means progress because it focuses on regional development through education, research, and business generation. “Since we founded Sócrates, it was with the purpose of being a legacy for our children so they can work together and stay united. Biopark’s proposal will allow us to make our long-awaited dream of internationalizing our company a reality much faster than on our own. Furthermore, Toledo is a city that has a security and tranquility that we have not experienced lately in Chile.
