Banks, media outlets, airlines, and various companies were affected by a global Microsoft outage caused by an update from CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity service provider.
According to the EFE Agency, flights from major U.S. companies like Delta, United, and American Airlines were unable to take off due to the Microsoft outage.
In Chile, airport disruptions were also reported, as LATAM Airlines informed passengers to check their flights for potential delays.
This global failure caused airports around the world to resort to manual techniques to inform passengers about flights, as well as the respective check-in procedures.
Images shared on social media showed the dreaded «blue screen» of Microsoft, which appears whenever a failure occurs.

Media outlets, like the British portal Sky News, had to temporarily suspend their broadcasts due to issues caused by the outage.
Meanwhile, Microsoft is working to mitigate the issues affecting countries around the world. EFE reports that the company is redirecting the affected traffic to alternative systems to lessen the impact, as improvements in some services have started to be reported.
What does the Microsoft blue screen mean?
The Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) appears whenever the Microsoft Windows operating system crashes and cannot recover.
It typically includes an error code that helps diagnose the issue and restart the system.
Josep Albors, Head of Research and Awareness at ESET Spain, told EFE that the update caused the Windows crash and the appearance of the blue screen.
Steve Ballmer was the one who created this «blue screen» when working in the operating systems division at Microsoft. It was designed for Windows 1.0, the company’s first system developed in 1985.
